RoseBark Review: Schick Slim Twin Shavers

It's time for the first of RoseBark Reviews.
Please read about why I am publishing my reviews, and what my purpose is in writing to companies. My purpose in posting the dialogs is principally this:  I believe good should be rewarded with good, and poor quality should be acknowledged as such.  I believe the public ought to have access to reviews for products, services, and places.  I had a particularly strong experience, and I want others to know about it.

Product:   Shick ST2 Slim Twin, Sensitive for Men.
Concern:  Poor product quality.  Why do I want to shave four times per armpit...  with a brand new razor?  That's unneccessary.
My Action:  Email Schick via their "Contact Us" section on their website.
Result:  Positive.  They replied very quickly via email, were professional, and generally addressed the situation.  They committed to mail me a coupon for $11.99 off one Schick razor or refill and defended the Slim Twin Sensitive's quality.  They quickly mailed the coupon.  I did not yet purchase another set of razors.  I'll certainly choose a different Schick model!

Cheers, and thank you, Schick.

Rose to Schick:

Greetings from Oregon!

First, please be aware that I write a blog with a readership of 1,600.  I have non-readers utilize search engines like Google and find my blog daily.  Please know that I will post this letter on my blog, rosebark.com.  I will post your reply to this email at the bottom of my blog's product review post.
----

I am writing about your product, Shick ST2 Slim Twin, Sensitive for Men.  Bar code 841058025078, value size.

I am disappointed in your product.  I was using cheap BIC razors, but their handles were slippery.
I purchased the Shick ST2 because it had a grip handle.  I purchased the Men's version because I hate pink.  No joke.

This razor actually takes three entire shaves to complete the same job my BIC razor did.  This surprised me - I assumed a more expensive razor would produce better results.  Either the blades are dull, or they are placed at the wrong angle to properly cut the hair.
The promotional phrase you use, "Precision.  Sensibly Priced." seems remiss.  Yes, I purchased the razors on sale and the price was reasonable.  But "precision" is far from accurate.

I do permit you one reasonable response - Perhaps you angle men's blades differently than women's.  I've not used men's in the past, and this would justify the difference in a decent, close shave.

I will post this letter to my blog on February 10.  If you have not yet replied, I will emphatically mention your customer disregard.  Likewise if you do not reply, I will discontinue using Shick products.  Please be aware that I am not writing to request a refund or replacement.

Thank you for your time and attention,
Sincerely,
Miss Rose Barker

Schick to Rose:

Rose,

Thank you for contacting Schick Consumer Affairs. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us and would be happy to assist you with your inquiry.

We regret any inconvenience this may have caused. We appreciate the input you have provided and will share it with the Brand Manager. Within the next 7-10 business days, you will be receiving an $11.99 replacement coupon through the mail that can be applied to the purchase of a new package of ST Sensitive razors as this is not typical of the product to take more than one shave to be effective. The design of the blades is not different for men and women. There is a difference however in the design of the cartridge and handle itself for men and women. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced and appreciate your loyalty to our products.

Thank you again for contacting Schick. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again via email or phone at 1.800.SHAVERS (1.800.742.8377).

Sincerely,

Elizabeth

 Rose to Schick:

Elizabeth,

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply, and especially for actually addressing my concern.  I'm not sure that you mean the handle is a different shape or a different angle, but either way the handle on the men's was easy to hang on to.  (Substantially better than Bic!)

The blog will be posted next week.
Blessings, and again thank you for your attention to the matter -
Miss Rose

  2. "The first epilator, the Epilady hair remover, was invented in 1985 by two Israeli engineers. Instead of using blades to cut the hair off, epilators pull hair out of the skin. According to Australia's Choice magazine, a survey finds 40 percent of epilator users think they are "very" or "moderately" painful to use, and 43 percent experience irritation such as itching or redness."

I'm really not sure I want to do this for you. On another note, the coupon is good for up to $11.99 in product...

I suppose I would be willing to try out the idea about 6 times to see if it really does work. It sounds torturous. Miserable.

    I'll consider it.

Anyone want an epilated bikini line? :)

  3. I rummaged around on the internet and am uncertain if Schick has an epilator. Quattro is not. Are you familiar with their products?

(I'm still cringing at the idea.)
